Impact Minds
Impact minds is a Spain-based startup providing approachable mental well-being exercises and activities as a benefit for the employees of participating businesses through an interactive web experience.
ROLE
Project Lead • UX Research • UI Design • Visual Design • Prototyping
CHALLENGES
Impact Minds is based in Spain, presenting unique obstacles in securing relevant research and designing for multilingual content. Their business model requires a B2B appealing landing page exterior with a single user facing interior. The design needed adaptability to cohesively serve both client and customer facing needs.
SCOPE
0-1 design of a employee facing web app. We began with user research, developed task flows for both the business and employee needs, and utilized these in tandem with our research to iterate on wire-frames and develop a strong site framework.
These concepts were brought to higher fidelity in tandem with the development of a design system to provide a solid foundation for future developers to expand upon.

Research
USER INTERVIEWS
We interviewed current & potential users to establish a better understanding of who we were designing for. We quickly learned that designing for businesses and users in tandem presents unique challenges requiring precise framing and decisions.
Mapping out key insights from these interviews informed a general synthesis we used to help guide our design decisions at junctures throughout the project.
COMPARATIVE
We looked at other businesses operating in the mental health space to gain insight on commonly used design patterns and strategies to help guide design decisions moving forward. Ultimately we compiled a deck of these findings and presented them to the client, assisting them in articulating their vision for the development of the web app.
INSIGHTS
Orange and blue were among the most common colors used by businesses operating in this space. Upon further research we learned that blue possesses proven calming effects on the psyche, and inspires trust. Orange is associated with health, joy & balance.
We utilized this information for palette choices as we worked to develop internal design guidelines and deliver style tiles for the client to review.
BRANDING
We utilized a branding deck to help guide the stylistic design choices. We ran this exercise internally and remotely with the client to narrow down Impact Minds to 6 actionable traits.

RESULT
The words we ended up on were Intuitive, Simple, Practical, Scientific, Trusted, & Emotional.

FLOWS & MAPPING
Putting our research and insights to use, we began iterating on user tasks and flows. There were circumstances where we would find ourselves adding a page or modal we had not accounted for, but thanks to our mapping we never spent time developing assets that went unused.
WIREFRAMES
With framework and flows established, we began iterating and bringing the design to life. We started on paper, explaining design decisions and utilizing dot voting to establish consensus before moving to screens.

ILLUSTRATION
Research findings synced with the founder’s vision of a having a more illustrative than photographic approach. To provide an illustrative identity for Impact Minds, I built upon an open sourced library(Humaaans by Pablo Stanley) as a foundation to create a cohesive visual identity for imagery throughout the web experience.
Hi-Fi
Pairing the visualization provided by Lo-Fi screens with synthesis of our user research, we now had the tools and insights neccessary to bring this design to life.
PROTOTYPING
I built a prototype using Invision to test these designs with potential users to highlight and revise any unclear copy or pain points occurring before packaging and redlining deliverables for the founder and engineering team.
LOOKING AHEAD
Upon review, the founder of Impact Minds was ecstatic with our designs. Being able to communicate directly with her via email and have weekly check-ins to review each phases deliverables was paramount in the success of this project. Impact mind’s internal team will handle further iteration as they develop the platform and we can’t wait to see the good they do!
